Most versions you can buy are either overpriced surplus that won't fit right, or cheap reproductions that look like a costume. We made the one that should exist. Nylon-cotton infused shell, proper brass-styled hardware, and sized for how people actually wear jackets. Not for someone carrying gear over a flak vest.

Size down one from your usual. Use the internal drawstring to cinch the waist. That's it.

The original ran roomy to layer over gear. Size down once for a clean modern line, or true to size for a relaxed drape. The internal drawcord settles the waist either way. Full pit-to-pit measurements are in the size guide.

Free standard shipping across Australia, same-day dispatch before 5pm AEST. 60-day returns on unworn items — if the fit isn’t right, we’ll sort it.

Machine wash cold on gentle, hang or tumble dry low. No bleach. The NyCo shell softens with every wash.

The File

SIXTY YEARS
OF THE SAME COAT.

01 — Origins

Born In The Field, 1965

Issued to U.S. forces and built to the MIL-C-43455 spec: a windproof shell, four utility pockets, a snap storm flap and a hood that rolled into the collar. Designed for cold, wet and movement. Nothing decorative, every line earning its place.

02 — The Lineage

Why They All Wore It

It came home from the war, then turned up at the protests against it. Then the camera found it, the coat for the man at the edge of the frame, the loner, the one who walks away. It became visual shorthand for a kind of quiet defiance that never went out of date.

03 — Construction & Materials

Correct, Down To The Snap

NyCo sateen shell in true OG-107 olive, rain-shedding and quiet, softening with every wash. Brass-finished centre zip, snap cuffs, button-in liner compatibility. The hardware reads right in the hand, not just the photo.

04 — Fit

Cut For The Man, Not The Gear

The original ran oversized to layer over equipment. We kept the silhouette but cut it for how you actually wear it. Size down once for a clean line, true to size for a relaxed drape. The internal drawcord settles the waist either way.

MACRO 01 — twill weave + grain · raking light
MACRO 02 — brass zip teeth + snap · shallow depth
MACRO 03 — internal drawcord + stitch · detail

EVERY HONEST QUESTION,
ANSWERED.

Will it actually fit me?

The original was cut to layer over military gear, so it runs roomy. Most men size down one. The internal drawcord and our pit-to-pit chart take the guesswork out, and returns are free for 60 days if it’s not right.

Is this the authentic spec?

Built to the MIL-C-43455 reference: NyCo sateen shell, brass-finished zip, snap storm flap, four utility pockets, button-in liner. Not surplus, not a tactical knock-off, the real silhouette, made new.

Is it worth $119?

A genuine vintage piece in this condition runs $400+ and arrives with someone else’s decade on it. This is the correct fabric and hardware, brand new, at a half of the price.

How is it better than the cheap ones?

Most reproductions miss on three things: poly-blend fabric that photographs plastic, oversized military sizing, and costume-grade hardware. We fixed all three.

What if I want to return it?

60-day returns on unworn pieces, free across Australia. If the fit isn’t right, we make it right, no restocking fee, no argument.

“It reads exactly right.”

I’ve owned three reproductions. This is the first one that doesn’t look like a costume. The fabric alone is worth it.

“Sized down, perfect.”

Followed the fit note, went one down from my usual. Sits clean, drapes properly, drawcord does the rest. No notes.

“The one I keep reaching for.”

Six weeks in and it’s the only jacket I wear. Gets better, not worse. Exactly what I hoped.

“Worth every dollar.”

Hardware, stitching, the weight of the shell — it feels like the real archival piece. Quietly excellent.
